Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Over the last month we've made lots of changes to our little house. Here are a few pictures of our most recent projects.

The Dining Room:

We painted and added a chandelier and some art.

The Living Room:

We painted and rearranged the furniture. We also added new art and fresh throw pillows.

The view from the other end of the living room. Don't you love our lamp? I really like its retro shape.

The Kitchen:

Nothing major here. Just a little window valence I made with Janine King fabric "Mod Dots".

The Stepdown/Hallway/Nook/Bedroom Entry Space

Painted a nice chocolate brown. It really felt like I was painting with pudding because of the color and viscosity of the paint. I was kind of tempted to lick my brush.
When we moved in all the trim and doors were tan. I like the white much better.

The Bathroom:
I painted the cabinets. They look black in the picture but they are really espresso brown.
The beach shadow boxes I was talking about. This was a fun project to do--and easy!New cabinet hardware. There wasn't any hardware on these before so we had to drill our own holes. I had a genius moment and made a hole template so we wouldn't have to measure every time. I still want to frame the mirror in this deep espresso color.

What do you think??

  3. Thanks, guys!

Becky, that is exactly the look I was going for! Fresh, classy, retro. =)

Alison, yes! By the time I got to painting the living room I had figured out my technique. It took a little trial and error. =)

    1. For trim and baseboards, paint a quick, rough coat first with a brush and let it dry. Don't worry about getting complete coverage at first. Paint the next coat thicker (with either a brush or a trim roller) and the top coat will adhere better while filling in all the gaps and giving a nice smooth finish.

    2. Tape is worthless on carpet. If you have to paint baseboards, slide some cardstock under the baseboards, slightly overlapping each piece all the way around the room. When the paint is dry, press down on the cardstock to break any paint seal and then pull it out.

    3. If paint does accidentally get on the carpet DO NOT TOUCH IT. Let it dry and then peel off the whole glob at once. Trying to clean it up right away only results in coloring the carpet. If the glob won't peel off you can probably "trim" it off with scissors and no one will ever notice. (You probably won't have this problem since you have those gorgeous new hardwood floors!)

    4. For doors, use a foam roller and lots of thin coats to get a smooth finish with no brush or roller strokes.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have specific questions

  4. Jeana your house looks great! I LOVE the colors and I absolutely adore the fabric you used for the kitchen valence. I recently started sewing myself and it's so fun to do little projects like that that turn out looking so great. You did a wonderful job! I can't wait until we are owning again so I can customize a little more...

  5. House is beautiful. Does that leave two rooms, guest room and master?

Uncle and Granny are missing two boys and and two grown ups. Can we fill our lonely hearts this coming weekend Feb 16th.

  6. Thanks, Molly! I bought the fabric on ebay and I LOVE IT. I have several other projects I'm planning for it.

Thank you, Mom! Yep, still need to do the guest and master bedrooms and I'm also planning on painting the laundry area. I'll email about our next available weekend--we miss you, too!
